.As for me, Ruby was right by my side the whole time. She was the only one that could truly handle my strength and there was never a moment without her.It just made me realize more of what I finally admitted to her.I was utterly in love with that girl. She was perfect in every way.I had always been drawn to the way her eyes lit up when she smiles but now everything seemed to be heightened. Her laugh was like music I could listen to continuously, her touch brought shivers and I knew I could never get enough of this; I never wanted to get enough.I never saw myself ever falling in love in the past but now, I would never take it back.Chapter 23ZaydenTrever finally showed signs of being more like himself after a few hours of playtime and we headed back inside to see if we could get anything out of him, Adele being the most eager.“Well?”Trever merely turned after setting the box down on the table.“Adele, let me breathe the air in the room first.”“I already gave you time.I don’t want to hear excuses.”“And you won’t.” He opened the box again and sat down.“Take a step back, Adele. You’ll want to.”“Why?”“Just do it.”She listened and stood with me while we watched Trever. He took out a small glass dish from the box and set it on the table. Then he took two glass vials that looked to contain blood and one other, some kind of herb.He sprinkled the herb around the thick edge of the glass dish and put his attention back on us.“Have you ever seen Seth before, Zayden?”Everyone was looking at me and I became overwhelmed with curiosity.“No.Just told.”“Would you like to?”My heart stopped when I answered.“Yes!”“You can show us that?” Troy asked.“By mixing their blood. It’s how I’ve seen him.”“How?” Adele asked.“By the foresight in your blood.Mixing yours with Zayden’s creates Seth. You still want to see him?”“Of course!” I said, sorry if I sounded a little demanding but I’ve been waiting for this chance since I’ve heard about it.Knowing he was truly going to be mine, I couldn’t miss this opportunity.“Okay.I hope you’re ready.”Trever opened one of the vials and poured a drop of blood into the glass dish then added another drop of a different vial on top of it.At first, nothing happened.I was hoping I wouldn’t be disappointed then Trever set fire to the herb circling the dish.It lit up quickly and the smoke rose into the air above the table with an image beginning to appear. It was dark but I could see him.Seth looked a lot like me but he was much older than when Adele has seen him.I would say he was an adult already or close. He was sneaking through the dark towards a door but he wasn’t alone. There was a white wolf with him.I was curious. It wasn’t Ryon because it wasn’t nearly as big.He was bigger than a person but I’d say this one was normal size for an adult wolf.I looked over at Adele and she was just staring straight ahead until I took her hand. She looked at me and willingly got closer, staying tight at my side.Seth reached for the door and slowly began to open it with the wolf at his side, ducking its head and ready to exit.“And where do you think you’re off to?”It was Adele’s voice for sure and I watched Seth sigh and slowly turn to talk to her but we couldn’t see much of her through the smoke.“Mother, hi.Ah—I was just going to take Rift out for a run.”“You know how we feel about these runs, Seth. They take you out all night and I don’t want to spend mine worrying about you.”“Then don’t.”“Not that simple.”“Come on, mother. This will be our last one before we go back home. You know we can’t do it there.People get freaked.”Adele sighed this normal sigh I’ve heard from her just before she would give in to someone’s request.“Be back by dawn.”“We will.Packs honor.Come on, Rift,”He started running out the door with the wolf and we saw Adele clearer when she approached with some requests of her own.“No mischief, Seth! I mean it! Stay away from human settlements!”She sighed when he didn’t call out a reply and she closed the door. The smoke cleared and with it, their image.“Whoa.” Troy muttered.“Yeah.Two things.” Trever said.“I have zero answers for that wolf with him and second, that’s not how I saw him.”My eyes quickly shifted.“What? It isn’t?”“No.The scene was completely different.”“Was Adele in it?” Ruby asked.“Because she looked—the same.”“I could tell I was older.” She said.“Well, some beauty is eternal.” Trever said.“And you can probably thank Jay for some of that.”“Is the vision different every time since that’s not what you’ve seen?” She asked.Trever shrugged.“I guess. This was only the second time I’ve done that but it was relatively short like that.”“What was that stuff you burnt?” Troy asked.“That just allows us to see by promoting the psychic visions already found in her blood.”“Can you do it again?”He looked at me, maybe a little unsure if it were a good idea.“Is that truly necessary? You’ll have his whole life to see him.”“Will I?”He looked me over, probably reading my thoughts and started to laugh.“Do you honestly believe—” He paused and his head snapped towards the front of the lodge with a stern face.My eyes turned black just so I could see what the matter was and I could feel a horse with one rider coming this way.“What is it?” Ruby asked.“Adele, stay inside.” Trever said without looking away from the windows.“Why?”“Just do it.”He headed for the door and she looked at me before following.I should have known that she wouldn’t listen but I didn’t know what this was.I thought it was maybe Kole or Jaylyn riding back but Trever obviously read something from this rider’s mind that he didn’t like.We all followed and a Kaluian messenger was just reaching the lodge.“A messenger?” Adele wondered.“What does he want?”She started to walk towards where Trever was waiting and Ruby gave me a gentle push forward.“Go with her.”“What? Why?”“That’s a royal messenger. The Queen never disturbs us when we’re on a mission.Something is wrong
