.Our bodies belong to one; our thoughts to the other….It is not only when we audibly and in form, address our petitions to the Deity that we pray.We pray without ceasing.Every secret wish is a prayer.Black Elk, a Sioux medicine man and priest, said it similarly, “Great Spirit is everywhere. It is not necessary to speak to him in a loud voice. He hears whatever is in our minds and hearts.”This is the true power of your secret prayer: Your thoughts are your secret wishes. So make them good…And pray without ceasing.Pray It In WritingWhat can you do right now to begin to turn your life around? The very first thing is to start making a list of the things you are grateful for.—Dr.Joe VitaleIn 1972, Catherine Ponder delivered a seminar in San Antonio on the Dynamic Laws of Prosperity, based on her classic book of the same name. She’s one of my favorite spiritual authors. She also wrote Pray and Grow Rich, which was retitled The Dynamic Laws of Prayer. As I write this, she is alive and well at age ninety.I’m impressed. In 1972, I was leaving high school and entering college.I didn’t know of Ponder or her books and wouldn’t for another decade or two.But someone was kind enough to post the audio of her seminar on iTunes, and I began to listen to it as I was writing this book.Catherine is a marvelous Southern teacher, with a charming accent, and great stories. She drives home her points with actual cases from real people who worked her teachings and had impressive results. One of her favorite methods for attracting what you want is simple: write it down.Sounds easy, right? But do you do it? I don’t always remember to do so, either.Writing your desires down is a way to tell your conscious and unconscious mind what you desire.More than that, it’s a way to put your prayer in concrete form.Instead of just saying the words, you write them down. The act of writing is for you, as well as for the Divine. It makes the request clear.Ponder said that your desires are from the Universe.“Surface” desires, as she worded it, would come and go.You don’t need to write down or pray for “an ice cream sundae.” It’s not a desire from the Divine.(Then again, maybe it is.I don’t want to judge anyone’s prayers or requests. After all, some sundaes are divine.)It’s those deeper, vaster, larger, more persistent desires that you want to pay attention to.Those desires—even the ones so big that they scare you a little—are the ones you want to acknowledge.According to Ponder and many other teachers, those desires are holy. The idea behind writing them down is to make a request of the Higher Power, the Great Something behind it all.Whether you believe a prayer in writing is more powerful than a spoken prayer isn’t the point. The goal is to get clear on what you want.Writing helps you do just that. But how do you write it down?My own suggestion is to describe it as having already happened.Rather than praying, “I want a better car,” a more powerful statement might be, “I now drive a car I love.” The act of putting the request in present tense helps you feel the energy of it.And it’s this feeling that goes into the world and attracts to itself whatever is needed to make it a reality.Catherine Ponder suggested you write your desires for each day, as well as for the month, the year, or a life.By doing so, you help paint the life you prefer.Don’t dismiss this simple technique.Ponder explained that the world is ready to give you what you request. But if you don’t make a request, others who are making requests will dominate your life. You are more powerful than you ever imagined. Why not prove it by writing down a few prayerful requests right now?The Third Step:Inspired ActionA joke…Clasping your hands in prayer at church isn’t much different than closing your eyes and making a wish before you blow out the candles on your birthday cake. You’re thinking words that you hope will be true and while you wait for the wish fulfillment, you get a snack.Pray and Attract MoneyNo man can rise to his greatest possible height in talent or soul development unless he has plenty of money; for to unfold the soul and to develop talent he must have many things to use, and he cannot have these things unless he has money to buy them with.—Wallace D.WattlesHave you ever found yourself saying, “I can’t do it.I can’t earn money.I can’t attract money.I can’t get a new job.I can’t open my business.I can’t do whatever?”I say pray about it and follow the inspiration into action.I’ve counseled a lot of people over the years in books, workshops, coaching calls, and in person on attracting money. It’s where people seem to focus the most, almost to the exclusion of the rest of their life. They jump from this thing to that thing, one shiny object after another, in the hopes that the next great thing will deliver. It rarely does. The problem usually isn’t in the thing you’re doing—it’s in you. This is where The Secret Prayer formula can really help
